## Test Description

Talking about TCS, the questions can slightly be tricky and you really need some practice to crack the tests. Fortunately, students are allowed to use a simple calculator (not a scientific calculator) in the test.

## Section 1

In the old TCS test pattern, the first round is an aptitude test of 30 multiple choice questions which have to be answered within 80 minutes but in a new pattern for 2018 batch, they have slightly modified the number of questions as 20 and time limit as 40 due to additional 2 sections. The TCS aptitude test generates negative marks for wrong answers. Certain questions marked with a star in the quantitative ability section signify higher weightage. This also means that they can give you a higher negative marking if answered incorrectly. This test would cover the following topics:

• Averages
• Mixtures
• Allegations
• Percentages
• Permutations
• Combinations
• Profit and loss
• Algebra
• Ratio and proportions
• Probability
• Time, speed, distance
• Time and Work
• Functions
• Geometry
• Numbers

## Section 2

The second section is Programming language efficiency checking test only available in new TCS pattern, where you have to answer 20 questions from 20 minutes the questions are only from C language like input, output, debugging, basic programming concepts. This section also has negative marking.

## Section 3

The third section is the coding test which is also only available in new TCS pattern, where you have to solve 1 programming question within 20 minutes using an inbuilt online compiler by using C programming language.

## Section 4

The last section is ‘Email Writing’ which resembles previous year test pattern. In this section you have to write an email for the given scenario in 10 minutes. For example, they might ask you to write a proposal e-mail to the company’s clients to try their new products.

## Tips by Our Experts

However, a few questions in this section are repeated from previous tests. So putting in some effort to practice the sample papers from previous TCS Aptitude Tests can help you prepare efficiently.

## Tips for Section 1

• First, focus on solving the easier questions; it is all about choosing priorities. If you have no idea of the question in 10 – 15 seconds, move to the next one.
• If you know you can solve the questions but find it to be time consuming, bookmark it for later.
• In Multiple choice questions, try and eliminate the options rather than solving the whole question.
• Solve at least ten questions in the first 20 minutes.

## Tips for section 2

• Optimal coding
• Lines of code will be evaluated
• Partial output cannot be validated since it is an Inbuilt compiler

## Tips for section 3

• Concentrate only on C language
• Negative marking is major problem so attend questions which you know well

## Tips for Section 4

If prepared properly for TCS, this can be the easiest part of the test.

• Understand the question before you start writing
• Keep it simple and crispy
• Stick to the point
• Give importance to grammar
• Avoid technical terms and jargons. The email should be simple for everyone to understand.
